According to Variety, the streaming giant is in the midst of grabbing up Aaron Sorkin‘s “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” from Paramount Pictures. The report adds that Netflix hopes that ‘Chicago 7’ can be released this year ahead of the presidential election in November. Paramount was originally planning to release Sorkin’s film on September 25, before going wide on October 16. “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, is the true story of a group of seven activists that were charged by the federal government with inciting a riot stemming from anti-Vietnam War protests during the 1968 Democratic National Convention....

I tried to contact early 2021 film festivals to see if there are any changes planned with the emergence of the Omicron variant around the world. A spokesperson for the Berlin Film Festival is telling me that they are monitoring the situation and will make changes according to the restrictions that will be put in place in Germany by the time the Berlinale rolls around in February. This just all feels like déjà-vu....

The whole thing feels like a messy excuse to reboot Godzilla for nostalgia-hungry moviegoers. Bruno Delbonnel (“The Tragedy of Macbeth”), Greig Fraser (“Dune”), Dan Laustsen (“Nightmare Alley”), Ari Wegner (“The Power of the Dog”), and Haris Zambarloukos (“Belfast”) were nominated for the 36th annual ASC Awards. Here are a few snippets of my review, aptly titled “Good Joe Bell is a Very Bad Movie,” from TIFF, dated 09.16.20: “Good Joe Bell” is a political statement very confused with itself. In fact, it’s as confused as its wide-eyed titular protagonist (played by a miscast Mark Wahlberg), a short-tempered man who doesn’t seem to understand the plight his openly-gay and bullied son went through in high school. “Based on a true story that received national media attention in 2013, the whole film feels like it would have been better served as a 60-second news segment rather than a two-hour movie....

The Oscar-winning “Pulp Fiction” auteur confirmed in an interview that he will be directing an upcoming eight-episode limited series. Tarantino broke the news during his “Cinema Speculation” book tour in New York City Tarantino’s series will premiere in early 2023. Plot details are as-of-yet unknown. If you remember, he wrote and directed two episodes of “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” in 2005, and an episode of “E.R.” in 1995, but he’s never created a show from scratch....

Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story” is nominated for 7 Oscars, including Best Picture, but its lead actress Rachel Zegler says she wasn’t invited to attend next Sunday’s ceremony. Zegler responded to a fan on Instagram asking what gown she was going to wear. Zegler replied: “I’m not invited so sweatpants and my boyfriend’s flannel.” Add this to the pile-up of clusterfucks the Oscars and Disney have amassed these past few weeks....

We don’t know much about the upcoming film, but Pattinson did reveal that the screenplay is in a near-state of secrecy at the moment and that even he had to be “ locked in a room to read the script,” adding “I don’t [even] have it myself.” [Via USA Today] “I’ve been a little wary of doing big movies for years and years, but there’s just something about Chris Nolan’s stuff....

Ben Affleck was let go of his duties as the caped crusader after DC’s “Justice League.” The Wrap had previously reported that Reeves has described his film as a “defining” and “very personal” story. Reeves is the man behind “Cloverfield” and “Let Me In,” but he probably got the gig because of his ‘Apes’ double-whammy “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” and, especially, “War for the Planet of the Apes....

Now, we’re getting word that Polanski is set to direct another film, this one titled “The Palace,” and with a story set entirely in a Swiss hotel. Rumoured to be part of this latest film is Polanski’s wife, actress Emmanuelle Seigner, and more intriguingly Woody Allen saboteur Mia Farrow, who flew to the UK and defended Polanski in a libel suit back in 2005. Oh, the irony. It’s hard to forget the fact that Polanski directed Mia Farrow in “Rosemary’s Baby” back in 1968....

However, an Indiewire piece today by Chris O’Falt (“Big Little Lies’ Season 2 Turmoil: Inside Andrea Arnold’s Loss of Creative Control“) is insinuating that there were a lot of problems brewing between Arnold and Vallee during production of the second season. It all amounted to Vallee and producing partner David E. Kelley literally stepping in for reshoots and sending Arnold home. O’Falt reports that Arnold was more or less hired because of Vallee’s recommendation....
