An interesting title that keeps coming up these last few days is “As Long as the War Lasts” from Spanish director Alejandro Amenabar, the buzz seems to be very good for this film, an appearance at Cannes now seems to be a very high possibility. They mention Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s “Memoria” but I was told that is not happening, the film will still be in production for the better part of the Spring and Summer....

I have seen all the movies on Nolan’s list and approve of 90% of them. Regardless, list-making is great because it represents your own uniquely personal tastes, it incites debate, which is something that is always welcomed here at WoR. David O. Russell has been trending on Twitter this afternoon, with over 14k tweets to his name? Not many of those having to do with the released trailer of of his new movie, “Amsterdam.” No, “Amsterdam” is starting to feel irrelevant for a lot of people now. It didn’t help that the trailer was somewhat underwhelming, but fact remains that Russell has yet to answer the years of accusations directed towards him....

Perlman and, his “Hellboy” co-star, Selma Blair seem to be in agreement with my assessment; the pair even took to social media to indirectly criticize the reboot. Blair reacted by posting a photo of herself kissing a poster of Perlman’s Hellboy. “This man, Ron Perlman,” Blair wrote on Instagram. “Forever my Red. You are always the realest deal, a diamond.” Perlman, meanwhile, posted a reminder on his Instagram that the del Toro original can be streamed on Netflix right now....

Leslie Felperin of The Hollywood Reporter says: “Altogether, it makes for a chilly, cerebral film – easy to admire, especially since it’s so rich in audacity and originality, but almost impossible to love, lacking as it is in a certain humanity.” The irredeemable Guy Lodge of Variety:” a big, brashly beautiful, grandiosely enjoyable one that will provide succor to audiences long-starved for escapist spectacle on this beefy, made-for-Imax scale. The sheer meticulousness of Nolan’s grand-canvas action aesthetic is enthralling as if to compensate for the stray loose threads and teasing paradoxes of his screenplay — or perhaps simply to underline that they don’t matter all that much....

I can see a future where the streaming giant still shows its “important” films theatrically, for a limited two-week engagement, whilst still having them stream online. I mean, nostalgia for celluloid will not COMPLETELY disappear, there will always be those that want to watch award-worthy films in theaters, akin to today’s boom of vinyl listeners. The Academy will no doubt maintain its rule that there has to be a theatrical engagement to qualify for Oscar....

I’m sticking with “CODA” winning Best Picture. As much as I love Jane Campion’s “The Power of the Dog,” it just hasn’t really struck a big enough chord within the industry to triumph over “CODA,” especially in the preferential ballot. Hell, I think “King Richard” has a better chance at winning BP than Campion’s film. Jessica Chastain (“The Eyes of Tammy Faye”) wins Best Actress, but watch out for Penelope Cruz (“Parallel Mothers”)....

Don’t get me wrong, I do love “Portrait of a Lady on Fire,” “Get Out” and “Parasite,” but I guess I’m one of those “purists” that believes a film needs to linger in the zeitgeist a bit longer before it is inserted alongside the greats. Having films, released a mere three years ago, pushing out Altman, Coppola, Lubitsch etc. is a tad too sacrilege for me. It took more than 20 years before “Beau Travail,” “Mulhollland Drive” and “In the Mood For Love” finally cracked the top 20....

As it stands, del Toro is still editing the film and won’t be completing it until the last week of November. So when this screens, the following week, it’ll still be hot off the presses. Notice how there’s a screening in New York City on December 2nd and the following day The New York Film Critics Circle votes on its awards. The “Nightmare Alley” delays seem to stem from the sound and music mix still not being added, ditto color correction and final VFX....

However, iff people have been saying how Ford is too old to play Indy, Ford himself wants to hear none of it. Appearing on them Today Show, the actor quite clearly stated that there should be no replacing him as Indy: “Nobody else is gonna be Indiana Jones! Don’t you get it? I’m Indiana Jones. When I’m gone, he’s gone. It’s easy… This is a hell of a way to tell Chris Pine this....
