Regal Cinemas has revealed that the latest James Bond movie, “No Time To Die,” will be clocking in at 163 minutes in length, making it the lengthiest Bond in the franchise’s near 50-year history. However, it does seem as though recent Bonds have been growing in length. The last two movies were the longest of the franchise — “Skyfall” was 144 minutes and “Spectre,” clocked in at 148 minutes. However, the psychological barrier of exceeding the 150-minute length at the movies is real, the longer your film is the harder it’ll be to convince people to buy a ticket....

Cage’s Robin Feld has been living in a cabin in the woods of Oregon with his truffle pig for more than a decade. The only person he interacts with is slick millennial businessman Amir (Alex Wolff), who drives up to the woodsy area every week to pickup the truffles Robin and his fungi-sniffing porcine gathered up. The tradeoff has Amir giving Robin food and utilities to survive in return for the precious truffles....

One of them was “Thor: Ragnarok,” which was a very silly and amusing romp from director Taika Waititi. Maybe as close to an “auteur” movie as the MCU has ever gotten (though I will defend Shane Black’s “Iron Man 3” to the death). ‘Ragnarok’ was a vast improvement upon the first two Thor installments, much of it thanks to Waititi who brought a good dosage of his usual wacky meta-humor....

In “Rebuilding Paradise,” Howard gives us a documentary tackling a small California town and its response to a devastating natural disaster. After getting hit by one of the worst wildfires in history, the town of Paradise, California was reduced to ash and rubble. With its residents unsure of the future, there were no homes, schools, hospitals, or even clean water left, the community decides to rise up and try to rebuild what they lost....

“Respect” is a mildly okay Aretha Franklin biopic, but with an excellent lead performance from Hudson, and her singing is quite something here. She does the “Queen of Soul” proud. The word “conventional” comes to mind when thinking of this biopic, it goes along just fine, but you’re never really lifted up in the same way a great Aretha songs would spiritually heal. Its mediocre 63% Metacritic rating seems about right....

In all, it’s made around $90 million worldwide. The budget is said to be in the vicinity of $17 million. These are immensely satisfying numbers for Paramount. Let’s just hope that it doesn’t get the “Paranormal Activity” treatment and get six more sequels. I didn’t review “Smile,” but it’s a fairly tight and mildly engrossing horror jam. It uses familiar tropes in its storytelling, but some of the jump scares are absolutely frightening....

Some critics are waking up to Spencer’s mediocrity. It was inevitably going to happen. It went from an 88 on Metacritic during fall festival season to now a 77. Of course, K-Stew stands a good chance of winning the Oscar (the narrative is too irresistible for Academy voters), but “Spencer” is no “Jackie” — the latter was at least infused with frightening real-world dynamics that felt closer to the truth....

That is until this year when he started production on “TÁR,” his first film in over 16 years. Cate Blanchett stars in a drama that Field wrote and directed. Today’s released “teaser,” frankly, doesn’t give us much to chew on. There’s mostly Blanchett in slo-mo exhaling what seems to be cigarette smoke. Then she leads an orchestra for a few seconds. It’ll probably be a good film. The Playlist’s usually-reliable Gregory Ellwood was saying a few months back that buzz for the film was “reaching operatic levels....

Möller’s film kept the viewer on the edge of their seat for the entirety of its 85 claustrophobic minutes, and made you forget that its concept involved nothing more than a dispatcher (Jakob Cedergrem) trying to solve a mystery by phone. In Fuqua’s remake, Cedergrem is replaced by Jake Gyllenhaal who does an excellent job in the role of a demoted police officer now doing desk work as an emergency dispatcher....

It seems as though AMC borrowed way too much money for their own good, and spent a good deal of it buying up other movie chains. They were having losses when revenues were flooding in. Now that revenues dropped completely due to the pandemic, interest must be killing them. They probably face major bankruptcy at this point, and individual theaters sold off to their competition, if theaters don’t fully reopen soon....

It’s very rare that you get a lineup like the one we got during the 70th edition of the prestigious festival: “Toni Erdmann,” “Elle”, “The Handmaiden”, “Paterson”, “Hell or High Water”, “Aquarius”, “Personal Shopper”, “The Salesman”, “Loving”, “Graduation”, “American Honey”, and “Julieta” … And yet, what won the Palme d’Or that year? Ken Loach’s “I, Daniel Blake.” It was honestly one of the worst juries assembled in quite some time....

Meanwhile, Joel Coen’s “The Tragedy of Macbeth,” starring Frances McDormand and Denzel Washington, has been screened for Cannes boss Thierry Fremaux. Whether it actually makes it to Cannes is a whole other story since Apple TV, who recently bought the rights to the film, may want to wait it out for the fall festivals. This highly disturbing rumor comes to us from One Take News and Cinelinx who claim that the “Eternals” director is “locked-in” to helm Feige’s forthcoming Star Wars project. The media outlet says they vetted the source and it is accurate. An announcement could be made imminently. Zhao had expressed interest in directing a Star Wars feature in the past. “I would, I’ll do anything Kevin asked me to do,” Zhao told The Playlist back in October....

Uh, what?! That’s right, Bale is in talks to join Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Negotiations are said to be near their tail end as both parties just have to sort out a few minor contractual quirks. However, we don’t know any other details about which character the actor woukd play in the MCU film, set for a 2021 release date. Something tells me that what enticed Bale most to make a silly Marvel movie may have had something to do with the return of “Thor: Ragnarok” director Taika Waititi, who will also be directing ‘Love and Thunder....
