“I’m Thinking of Ending Things” can be seen as a sort of companion piece to ‘Synecdoche,’ but whether that’s a good or bad thing will depend entirely on the viewer. This is another formally daring, whimsical, and glacially-paced film from Kaufman. The passion behind this latest jaunt into the meta abyss feels, at times, too elusive for its own good, and this despite the excellent turns from its actors. Clocking in at a ballsy 135 minutes, from its very first frame, Kaufman thrusts us into the psyche of Louisa (Jessie Buckley), a young woman having second thoughts about her relationship with new boyfriend Jake (Jesse Plemons), but still, agreeing to take a snowy road trip down to meet the parents down at his family farm....

Directed by Doug Liman, a reliable, efficient, and incredibly well-seasoned filmmaker who has been Hollywood’s secret weapon go-to director for almost 20 years, ”Locked Down” has a script by “Peaky Blinders” screenwriter Steven Knight, and had distribution rights bought by none other than HBO Max. “Locked Down,” previously titled “Lockdown” is the first of what will likely be many COVID/pandemic-themed films in the next few years. The turnaround in completing production on this film was, quite frankly, impressive, given the pandemic has been going on for the last 9 months....
Set during the second world war, Max Landis’ script, a genre mash-up of pulp, action, and horror, has a Women’s Auxiliary Air Force pilot (Chloë Grace Moretz, having a blast) taking a ride on-board a bomber fighter jet filled with misogynist pilots. She’s carrying a mysterious and precious cargo marked as classified information. The crew relegates her to sit in the ball of the turret, which is located near the bell of the plane....

A very autobiographical film for Lapid (think 8 1/ or Stardust Memories) the Israeli director is the central character here, a successful movie director, played by Avshalom Pollak, who has just had a great hit at the Berlin film festival (“Synonym” won the top prize there in 2019). Prepping for his next film, this one about a Palestinian activist named Ahed, the director accepts to take a break and attend a government-sponsored special screening about his last film in his hometown of Arava....
I shrugged it off, especially since, immediately after that, I emailed Paramount about the rumor and they told me the plan was still a December release. Now, Brad Pitt, one of the stars of “Babylon”, is embroiled in controversy stemming from his 2016 divorce with Angelina Jolie. According to a recently revealed FBI report, declassified after Jolie’s request, the actress told investigators that Pitt, who had been drinking, shrieked at her in a restroom on board a flight back from France, to the US — Jolie alleges that Pitt “grabbed her by her head,” “grabbed her by the shoulders,” shook her, and pushed her into the bathroom wall....
Over on Metacritic, “Babylon” has an impressive 7 perfect 100 scores but an overall 61 Metascore. This just goes to show the drastic love/hate reaction for this film. Chazelle’s film might be flawed (the ending doesn’t work) but it has these batshit crazy sequences that will stay etched in my memory for a good long time. It’s very hard to completely fault a filmmaker for taking a big swing, but critics don’t care....

Days later, its inhabitants notice that their village has literally vanished from most maps and a UFO-shaped drone starts flying overhead....
This is yet another painful blow to theater owners around the world who were relying on the fall movie slate to stage a semi-comeback of sorts, but the business is all but dead at this point with, no doubt, many theater chains set to declare bankruptcy in the coming weeks and months. Eddie Murphy will be back in the role of Akeem, the privileged African prince who settled into Queens to look for an American wife in the 1987 original....
The journey this Japanese film, owned by Janus Films, has been through is absolutely phenomenal. Based on all the footage I had seen, I wasn’t expecting Chloe Zhao’s “Eternals” to be as bad as it was. Coming off her “Nomadland” Oscar triumph, expectations were sky high in the hopes that it could go down as one of the better MCU movies. However, I reported last Monday a not particularly enthusiastic reaction, having seen the film at an early press screening and bored to tears with it: “A certain upcoming Marvel movie was screened for press this morning....
“Game Night” has Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams playing game-loving married couple Max and Annie. They organize another night of Charades, and Pictionary, and Trivial and/or really just any game that would feed their, let’s make it clear, unhealthy, competitive side. A comedy can only work if the on-screen actors share a talented knack for comedic timing and chemistry. That happens here with McAdams and Bateman, an unlikely comedy dream team that carries “Game Night” into glory....

Ari Aster‘s “Hereditary” is just that movie – a spooky, hypnotic film that feels like the culmination of the last 50 years of horror. Lorene Scafaria‘s “Hustlers” rides and dies by the morally dubious motto above. The set-up concocted by Scafaria is actually artfully intimate at first, setting up the main strippers of the film, played by Constance Wu, Jennifer Lopez, Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart, Lizzo and Cardi B. They are all working-class women, barely making ends meet, getting their dough by dancing and grinding on me clients nightly at a top-tier Manhattan strip club packed with Wall Street “assholes....
