This would beat Damien Chazelle’s “Babylon” by two minutes. “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” is “only” 161 minutes. The first “Avatar” clocked in at 162 minutes. The ambition for the sequel seems to have been kicked up a notch. Hopefully, it doesn’t feel like 190 minutes. I’m reminded of an old Roger Ebert quote, one of his great ones; “No good movie is too long and no bad movie is short enough”....

Its domestic total on Monday morning stood at a little over $444 million. By tonight, “Avatar: The Way of Water” will overtake “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” as the second highest-grossing domestic release of 2022 with around $445 million. “Top Gun: Maverick” is still the top domestic ticket seller with $718.7 million. However, ‘The Way of Water’ will, in a matter of days, surpass Maverick’s $1.48 billion worldwide mark. Before the release of “Avatar: The Way of Water,” Cameron had made the comments that ‘The Way of Water’ needed to hit $2 billion to become profitable during its theatrical run....

“Bardo” is currently in post-production and is expected to wrap by the fall. Production included a month of rehearsal and then a 22-week shoot in Mexico. This same very credible source added that two other Netflix titles, Andrew Dominik’s “Blonde,” and Noah Baumbach’s “White Noise,” will also not be going to Telluride. Headed to Telluride will likely be Todd Field’s “Tar,” Sarah Polley’s “Women Talking,” James Gray’s “Armageddon Time,” and Scott Cooper’s “Pale Blue Eye....

The Sundance winner is being give similar treatment from Apple as last year’s eventual Best Picture winner “CODA.” Will it work? I’m not too sure about that. “CODA” had an inclusive pull to it (deaf actors, female director, underdog story). What does ‘Cha Cha’ have? I guess the fact that its director, Cooper Raiff, is just 25 is quite the story. Dakota Johnson also gives the best performance of her career in this sweetly rendered movie....

‘Curb’ is still active, having entered its 10th season this past Sunday with the premiere of the first episode “Happy New Year.” After a disappointing season 9, the weakest season of the whole series, Creator Larry David clearly wanted to make this new batch of episodes work. And, it shows. “Happy New Year” isn’t only a hilariously topical treat to watch, but it also raises expectations for the remaining 9 episodes of this latest season....

It sounds politically-charged and it probably will be. Just look at what McKay told Rolling Stone earlier in the year, describing his film as being about “a global catastrophe and a bumbling U.S. President who refuses to listen to his White House scientists advice”. A thespian who has seen the film at a recent test screening told me that it was a global warming satire with a lot of the same meta-editing McKay brought to his last two films (“The Big Short” “Vice”)....

In a nutshell, this ridiculous comedy is about two small-town Icelandic singers as they chase their pop star dreams at a famous European global music competition. It features a terrific, genuinely affecting performance by Rachel McAdams, who all but outshines her co-star in a role that’s filled with heart. Of course, we also get Ferrell’s ludicrous, over-the-top comedic antics, the usual-shtick from the 52-year-old actor, who always seems to play an over-the-top idiot filled with unearned confidence....

For the 80 or so countries this year, the goal is simple; make it to the shortlist of 15 nominees; Easier said than done as the process, a complicated one involving voting percentages, sometimes spurs a number of snubs and surprises every given year. With that being said, there have been 70 submissions so far this year snd there are 10 major contenders not only vying to get nominated in the category, but to win the whole Megillah....

The film’s detractors have won the battle to prevent this film from winning Best Picture, or so I think, but with impressive stamina at the box-office and incredible audience scores “Green Book” could still potentially shock. Who knows. All of this to say that Family members of pianist Dr. Donald W. Shirley criticizing the lies in the film’s narrative have irked “Green Book” star Viggo Mortensen. And in a new interview with Variety, the actor, who plays Lipp in the film, defended “Green Book” calling the Shirley family’s criticisms “unfair....

Described as a “heart-warming father-son story set in glorious Tuscany”, the movie stars Liam Neeson, and Micheál Richardson (Neeson’s real-life son). If anything, and the only interesting component of this film, is the fact that there are some autobiographical hints here. Much like in real life, where Neeson and Richardson had to deal with the unexpected death of wife-mother Natasha Richardson, the father-son duo in the film has to also cope with the death of their matriarch....

That means it took a whopping 17 months for the 50th instalment of the James Bond franchise to finally be released. That’s right folks, “No Time to Die” is set to screen for press, worldwide, tomorrow at 3PM EST. The embargo is supposed to lift at 7:01pm EST. The film runs an epic 163 minutes which makes it the longest Bond movie ever. The previous winner of this title was “Spectre” (148 minutes)....
