Bruno Delbonnel (“The Tragedy of Macbeth”), Greig Fraser (“Dune”), Dan Laustsen (“Nightmare Alley”), Ari Wegner (“The Power of the Dog”), and Haris Zambarloukos (“Belfast”) were nominated for the 36th annual ASC Awards. Delbonnel, a giant of cinematography, with already five Oscar nominations, gets his fifth ASC nom. As mentioned, Kaminski, a six-time ASC nominee, is still a potential Oscar threat. He won the New York Film Critics Circle award in early December. The winners will be announced on March 20th. So, how does the Oscar race look like in this category? Actually, pretty similar. I have Fraser, Wegner, Delbonnel, Zambarloukos and Kaminski in my predictions. Nightmare Alley’s Dan Laustsen would be on the outside looking in. Wegner And Delbonnel are most deserving of winning the Oscar, but as it stands it seems as though it’s Fraser’s Oscar to lose.
