Scorsese’s 3-hour-plus opus is yet another Netflix addition within the Criterion library, after “Marriage Story,” and “Roma” earlier this year. Nominated for 10 Oscars, for which it won a grand total of zero, ”The Irishman” is a crime epic starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci.” After its New York Film Festival premiere back in October of 2019, I described the film as “Scorsese’s eulogy to gangster cinema.” The Criterion’s release is set for November 24th, 2020. It contains a new 4K digital master, approved by Scorsese, with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack. And no, I won’t even get into whether the Best Picture Oscar should have gone to Bong Joon-ho’s “Parasite” or Scorsese’s film, mostly because I respect both films, but if you want to get into the conversation about that head over to Jeffrey Wells’ site.
