Director Jason Reitman will direct and co-write “Ghostbusters: Afterlife’,” which is said to be set in the original universe. The production is targeted to start this year with a planned Summer 2020 release date. Reitman had previously told Entertainment Weekly that the new movie will ignore the 2016 reboot directed by Paul Feig, and will be a direct continuation of the 1984 original.
Reitman is the son of Ivan Reitman, who directed the original movies. Jason has had his own very successful career as a filmmaker ever since his 2005 debut “Thank You For Not Smoking,” following that one up with the Oscar-nominated “Up in the Air” and “Juno.”
As mentioned, Reitman (“Juno,” “Up in the Air,” “Tully“) will co-write and direct. — his vision for the film seems to be both a mix of nostalgia and moving forward: “This is gonna be a love letter to ‘Ghostbusters,’” Reitman told Vanity Fair, earlier this year. “I want to make a movie for my fellow “Ghostbusters” fans.” It will be a separate entity from director Paul Feig‘s 2016’s “Ghostbusters” and instead be considered the third installment after the first two movies.

In Ghostbusters: Afterlife, when a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind. The film is written by Gil Kenan & Jason Reitman.
