“We’re going to be very tough with them,” the President said of Hollywood. “They’re treating conservatives very unfairly. … Hollywood is really terrible. You talk about racist — Hollywood is racist. What they’re doing with the kind of movies they’re putting out, it’s actually very dangerous for our country. What Hollywood is doing is a tremendous disservice to our country.”
Trump added, “The movie coming out is made in order to inflame and cause chaos. They create their own violence, and then try to blame others. They are the true racists, and are very bad for our country!”
This scathing indictment of the industry courtesy of the President comes as controversy is igniting over the release of “The Hunt,” which is being produced by Blumehouse and is directed by Craig Zobel (“Compliance”). The synopsis is no doubt contingent on pleasing/nabbing the millions of Trump haters to buy a ticket, but, at a time of immeasurable divide in the country, do we really need such a divisive movie to be released?
The “deplorables” stems from “Basket of deplorables,” a phrase from Hillary Clinton ‘s 2016 Presidential campaign by in which she used to describe half of the supporters of her opponent at the time, Trump. Many have suggested that the phrase was the main reason why Clinton lost the election as it was, supposedly, emblematic of the disdain with which the New Upper Class looks at mainstream Americans. This significant moment in history helped pave the way for the democratic party’s identity politics platform, which would be maximized to full-effect, for better or for worse, during the Trump Presidency.
Universal is set to open “The Hunt” in theaters nationwide September 27.
