My buddy Eric Lavalee over at IONCINEMA has an interesting scoop about how Denis’ “The Stars at Noon” will not be ready for Cannes 2022 as it is still very much in post-production editing stages. The film is backed by A24. It’s not a surprise to believe that Denis would want to skip Cannes, and maybe opt instead for a Venice or Toronto slot. The last time Denis had one of her films in official competition at Cannes was for her 1988 debut “Chocolat.” After that, it’s been mostly sidebar sections or Venice competition. A real shame if you ask me since she’s one of the most prominent world filmmakers of the last quarter of a century. Denis’ last film, “High Life,” had its world premiere at TIFF where there was a mass amount of walkouts at the Roy Thompson Hall. I was there, it wasn’t pretty, so maybe Denis will want to skip Toronto this time around as well. While we’re at it, check out my interview with Denis from three years ago. Contribute Hire me
