It sounds like an insanely bold statement from Dominik. I don’t care about its awards chances, I just want to see something different and “Blonde” is sure to break the mold on cinematic conventions. Here’s an excerpt from an Empire story on the film: If you remember, I broke the story back in August 2021 about Netflix’s severe discomfort after watching an NC-17 cut of the film. “Blonde” was originally supposed to screen at last year’s Venice Film Festival lineup before being pulled last-minute by Netflix. The contracts were about to be signed for it to play in competition and then the streaming giant pulled the plug. That would turn out to be one of the many dramatic episodes that would ensue regarding Dominik’s film, which has kept its NC-17 rating intact. Netflix eventually brought in acclaimed editor Jennifer Lame (Manchester By The Sea) “to curb the excesses of the movie.” Still, Dominik maintains that the cut being released is very much his own.
