What we do know is that Steven Spielberg is set to receive the honorary Golden Bear. Philippe Garrel’s “Le Grande Chariot,” formerly titled “La lune crevée,” now has a French release date set for March 8th, 2023. André Téchiné’s “Les Pieds Sur Terre” is also set for a post-Berlin release. It was announced this summer that Christian Petzold’s “The Red Sky” will be coming in the “Spring of 2023.” That also means a presumed bow at Berlin. Also, what to make of Aki Kaurismaki’s “Dead Leaves,” his first film in over six years, will the Finnish filmmaker want to wait it out for Cannes? His last film, 2017’s “The Other Side of Hope,” opted for a Berlinale world premiere. Then there’s Wes Anderson. In 2014, Anderson brought “The Grand Budapest Hotel” to Berlin, will he do the same with “Asteroid City”? He also has “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar” in post-production — one of these will surely be kept for Cannes. Maybe Pablo Larrain’s “El Conde”?
