After a five-year absence, Iñárritu is already shooting his comeback vehicle in his native Mexico City, with a colossal production, tentatively titled “Limbo”. The drama is said to be a political and social statement of Mexico. No further story details have been divulged. Inarritu wrote the film himself and a crew member has confirmed that it is being shot in Spanish. The lead actor is said to be played by Daniel Giménez Cacho, with Oscar-nominated Darius Khondji (“Amour,” “Seven,” “Uncut Gems”) hired as Cinematographer. The first week of filming is rumored to have already been completed. Filming is apparently compliant with strict COVID-19 protocols in the area, to avoid any infections in the middle of the production. If you can believe it, “Limbo” has five months of filming left. The plan is for the film to be released this coming December. Production on the film was set to kick off last April but has been delayed by a full year. It does look, at least from the first few details, that Inarritu may be taking a page out of fellow countryman Alfonso Cuaron’s notebook, by making his own Mexico City-set story built around the formative years of his life in that country.
