This could be, and sounds like, another coming-of-age story in the same vein as her pre-Portrait films, such as “Girlhood” “Water Lillies” and “Tomboy....

According to a new statement released by Cannes 2020 organizers (via Deadline), the ban on public events in France until mid-July has made the postponement of the film festival “no longer an option.” The statement added that they are beginning to “explore all contingencies” for how to continue to have Cannes in a way that would satisfy and “support the year of cinema.” What could possibly be done to save Cannes 2020 this year?...

It was announced yesterday that “The Red Sky” will be coming in the “Spring of 2023.” That means an obvious bow at the Berlin Film Festival. Something tells me the Berlinale will have a more-that-decent lineup come early next year with new films from Petzold, Ozon, Sachs, Garrel, Techine and maybe Schanelec. A new synopsis has also arrived: Petzold is the acclaimed director behind “Phoenix,” “Transit” and “Barbara.” I don’t think he’s ever done Cannes before, at least not to my knowledge....

As was anticipated, the COVID-19 pandemic tied Warner Bros’. hands too tightly as they have gone ahead and delayed Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet,” yet again. Except, this time, there is no new release date. By all accounts, “Tenet” is delayed indefinitely. The WB confirmed [via Variety] that Nolan’s new film, which was originally set for release on July 17 before getting delayed to July 31 and then August 12, is now completely off the grid for 2020, with a new date coming “imminently,” according to the studio....

Fincher is a world-class filmmaker and has had a hot streak of films between 1995 and 2014 (“Seven,” “The Game,” “Fight Club,” “Panic Room,” “Zodiac,” “The Social Network,” “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” “Gone Girl.”) The only time I felt disappointed by a film of his during that time span was 2008’s ”The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.” Just a few months after the release of “Mank,” it was announced that Fincher was again teaming up with Netflix for a movie....

According to the Variety report, the Nazi subject matter at the heart of “Jojo Rabbit” is worrying Disney execs. Although this new movie borrows the same name as Cronenberg’s 1970 feature it will have a different plot altogether....
